20 Days Later
So, 20 days later and progress is made!
The master mold has been created. It produces the sexiest GanPens to date. Oh so smooth.
The pinstriping enamel didn't turn out well. But, enamel model paints work extremely well. Who would've known that such good stuff was right under my nose? I used to use them to paint Gundams.
I've decided that I'm making a limited edition run of 50 penguins. I'll probably sell them around $25 each. They will be unique, hand painted, and one-of-a-kind. Special blood splatters and themed paintjobs ahoy!
Pictures will come soon!

Setbacks
Long time no update.
Mah bad.
So, in the few weeks I have neglected to update, many things have happened.
-The master cast for GanPen wasn't the master cast after all...too many imperfections.
-I'm sanding a GanPen from the new cast so I can make a cast of that one.
-Sai gave me some 800 and 2000 grit sandpaper. Who knew they had 2000? Anyway, this GanPen is going to be WAY smooth.
-I've been playing with paint.
check it out:
The paint is some pinstriping enamel Overton is letting me use. I need to get flat black, though. Looks a bit unnatural.

Almost ready for the MASTER CAST!
I've been sanding for about a week now, and I'm ready to do some fill-in work for the master cast.
On the left is an earlier positive I made. It's got oil clay filling the neck area because, well...He looks like his head is half-cut off.
I fully intend on having a good first positive from the master mold before Thanksgiving break.
I have 3 days.

Finally!
The very first GanPen cast!
I've been working on everything the past few days.
The mold and positive were just made today.
As you can see, there are many imperfections. Such as the feet. And numerous air bubbles.
BUT HE'S STILL COOL!
Just a few kinks to work out, and he'll be ready to be sanded and re-cast.
I think I'll make a tutorial sometime, just for the heck of it.

Even More Progress!

More progress...
Sorry for the lack of updates recently.
Here are more images of Gan-Pen
Head, body, and feet. The wings are now sculpted against the body. And the beak is temporary.
The Above image was taken today. You can see the little tail that I added on.
All that's left to do is the tie and tuxedo design on his tummy.
Note that the head and feet aren't attached, either.

Hack 2 School
So, here's this really cool website that's nifty for design school people! (like hopefully me).
Core77: Hack 2 School
I found it on the Core77.com design magazine website. Haven't had a good chance to look around much on the site, but the Hack 2 School thing is pretty funny and has tons of links to teach you how to do stuff, like "5 Ways to Sound Smarter in a Crit," "Classmate Designertypes (and what you can learn from them)," and this handy Hipster PDA thing (it's about halfway down the page)
I made my own PDA. I'll take pictures later, someday, probably.

Graphic Designs
Here are some cool things I might add to my graphic design-ish portfolio.
They were done in art class with some weird cutty-stuff. Can't rem-ember what the name is, but it has a white side and a black side layered on top of one another. You cut away the white side and the black side shows up underneath. Then I scanned it and made some nifty things in Photoshop.

HOLY SHAQ-FU!
Dragoneer's Aria "Dragon Draw" results
I ACTUALLY WON SOMETHING COOL FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE!
Well, by the fruits of mine own labor, anyways...
FERUMGARRON WINS!
But man, the other two winners are outstanding! And so are the runners-up!
*on top of the world*
*really tired*
G'night.

ArtRage 2
Can't let Mir-chansan have all the fun now, can we?
I was messing around with the program ArtRage 2! VERY nifty thing that actually emulates real media quite well. Pencil, paint, pastel, crayon...AND MORE! If you buy the full version, which is a measly $25. That pretty much buys you the ability to use layers and some other stuff.
She's an elf! And a might crappy looking one, but hey! I'm still not entirely used to the tablet or the program.
I think I'll get it sometime.

Colored 2
This one may or may not be done right away. It has moving parts, so I think I'll be doing this one later. I think I'll have a progression of awesome penguin toys, starting with an un-poseable one and ending with a massive life-sized penguin 'fridge.
This is the one that has Mir-chan-san's influence. She suggested a fatter penguin! And a bigger head. And guns and gangsters and stuff...Real gangsters, not the Durham ones.

Ze Project!
So, my second period is Independent Study with Mr. Overton.
I'll be making toys.
To the left is my first plan. Penguins!
As you can see, there is the basic one, which will be black and white. And there will potentially be a pirate one, a zombie one, and a ninja one.
But, that's not all, folks!
Naturally, with an hour in class the think up of this thing, your train of thought sorta leaps to...crazy ideas!
This sorta seems to be like ripping off those professional vinyl toy designers, but to the right, you can see a different penguin mold idea with a wing (or two) to hold stuff in!
I don't think it's a total ripoff, it's more like a common sense type thing....If a penguin is cool, then (naturally) a penguin with a big-ass sword is awesome! Or an umbrella! Or even a lightsaber!
Oh, the possibilities!
That's about it for now, folks!
School Starts..
So, school started yesterday.
It still hasn't quite hit me yet.
Probably won't hit me until college starts.
I'm thinking Governor's School helped me out here-I'm taking a much more "get it done" attitude this year, but I am still quite laid back about doing everything.
Also, this is the first year in all of my schooling life that I did not get a massive stomach achedown on the first day.
How amazing is that?
My schedule:
AP Environmental Science (...eh.)
Portfolio Development (Toys!)
AP Psychology (LOTS of reading @_@)
Art VI (Woooo!)

Who that is, yo?
Thursday, August 23, 2007
So, let's see something cool, eh?
So, this is Ferrumgaron...or was it Ferumgarron? I dunno, but he's a dragon I did a wek or two ago for a contest. Didn't win anything, but hey! It was fun. Ink and watercolor.
And to the right here is some fanart of byakuya Kuchiki from Bleach. My first "finished" piece that I've done entirely in Photoshop. Not great, but not too bad.
I'll upload some of the other things I've been messing around with in Photoshop later...
First time, Wooo!
So, I discovered that my Gmail account could be used to quickly make a Blog.
AWSUMSAUCE!
Yeah. I'll probably use this space to talk about random stuff and put up some of my artwork.
I think I'll move some of my Facebook notes onto this thing....
